Born to be Lord

We are blessed to live in a culture that can’t ignore the annual reminder that “Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11) Even though the majority of those we share space with may not bow to Christ as Lord, they seem to enjoy the sentimental celebrations that a special baby was born in Bethlehem.

The celebrations encompass a wide array of items, such as manger scenes, festive lights, abundant gifts, adorned trees, peaceful music, and men donning Santa suits.

But Christmas is not about men putting on a suit like Santa.

Christmas is about God putting on flesh like men.

Christmas is not about Santa coming to your house to deliver gifts.

Christmas is about God coming to this world to deliver us from sin.

Christmas is not about going to the store in search of the perfect gift.

Christmas is about a perfect God coming to an imperfect world in search of you and me to give the gift of eternal life.

Christmas is not about peace on earth between warring men.

Christmas is about God sending Jesus as a peace offering for men warring against God.

Christmas is not about putting up a tree with your son in your living room.

Christmas is about God sending his Son to be put on a tree so we could live.

Christmas is not about illuminating your home with lights.

Christmas is about illuminating a dark heart with the Light of the World.

I trust you have enjoyed all the celebrations of the Savior's birth. But, more than that, I hope you have also renewed your surrender to His Lordship in your life and are ready to head into the new year with a wonder that he would invite you to come and adore him.
