My Life Verse

Do you have a life verse? You know, a bible verse that leaped off the page for you in a foundational season of your life that you return to as an anchor for your soul.
My life verse is Acts 20:24. “I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
When I first saw that verse as a 17-year-old, it changed the course of my life. God used it to convict me of how much value I place on myself, to the detriment of valuing God and others. It’s not that our lives don’t have value. But when you realize your life is precious to God, you don’t have to constantly prove that your life is precious to others.
God also used that verse to call me to a life of ministry. I told the Lord I would go anywhere and do anything. He has taken me up on that commitment. So, here I am, unpacking the moving boxes in a new home, in a new community, planting New City Church as a 58-year-old. Why? Because I want to “finish my course and the ministry I received” as a 17-year-old.
What is your course of ministry? Are you on course to finish well? The course of your ministry may look very different from mine. Your course of ministry today may simply be keeping your three-year-old alive, praying with your hurting neighbor, or shining the light of Christ in a dark workplace.
I hope you will consider your participation in New City Church part of your calling to ministry. Your commitment, attendance, prayers, invitation to others, giving, and service are all critical to preparing to launch New City Church in the near future.
Let’s continue to build a church that is centered on “testifying to the gospel of the grace of God.”
